A Healing Journey: Kim’s Story
“I think we should be lifting people up, not putting them down. Everybody deserves another chance in life.” - Kim Park, MP Neighbours Associate
Founded in 2002 by Vancouver based Scotsman, Nic Brand, Men in Kilts has grown from a small window cleaning business to an international multi-million dollar cleaning and building maintenance franchise. Distinguishable by their green plaid kilts, they put a smile on everyone's face wherever they go. This unique aspect of the Men in Kilts’ brand, dubbed "the power of the kilt", has undoubtedly contributed to their success, alongside their drive to provide high quality services at all times. In 2023, Men in Kilts Vancouver was awarded the International Franchise Association (IFA) Franchisee of the Year award, IFA's highest honour!
Mission Possible first connected with Jason, the General Manager of the Vancouver team, in 2022, to invite him to put on a short seminar for our associates about the work Men in Kilts does and how to apply to join the team. Since then, Jason and the team have attended multiple Opportunities Fairs, taking the time to talk with interested associates extensively and give advice on interviewing. Last summer, they also participated in our Cleanest Day of the Year, and Jason was able to hear a story from an associate about their time in the Employment Readiness Program. "My experience with Mission Possible and its associates has been very uplifting and inspiring… the respect and compassion is evident and the purpose is clear," he shared.
Jason understands the value of meaningful work, having experienced unemployment and homelessness himself. "Men In Kilts gave me an opportunity to grow, and I want more people to experience that kind of hope." He is eager to help out associates interested in getting into the exterior cleaning industry, and believes "people deserve opportunities and associates at Mission Possible are working hard for them."
Our Employment Engagement Coordinator, Tyler, collaborates closely with Jason to find additional ways for Mission Possible and Men in Kilts to work together. "Jason is a great friend to Mission Possible. He's always willing to help out... We can't thank him enough for his support."
Looking forward, Jason hopes to hire graduated Mission Possible associates to join his team, and plans to continue participating in MP's Opportunities Fairs. Hiring inclusively is paramount for Men in Kilts, and Jason encourages other employers to get involved, stating, "When you can celebrate people’s differences, the best in everyone comes out and you get the best work from the best people for the job."
