Job Summary:
The Community Engagement Assistant (CEA) will work alongside the Programming Team to support the day-to-day operations and implementation of the Employment Readiness Program.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, organize, and execute outreach initiatives to support the recruitment activities of the Employment Readiness Program.
  • Research and develop resources to help connect program participants to community supports and services.
  • Plan and execute community building events for participants of the Employment Readiness Program in order to connect and celebrate participants’ momentum.
  • Assist in maintaining partnerships and relations as needed.
  • Support the Employment Readiness Program’s day-to-day operations and assist with data entry.

  • A passion for empowering people with an empathetic and supportive attitude.
  • Experience in community engagement and outreach partnerships. 
  • Proven event planning experience, organizational skills, and careful attention to detail.
  • A professional and outgoing manner and ability to interact respectfully with a wide variety of people.
  • The ability to work within a team environment but also to work independently.
  • Strong skills using Google suite applications (docs, sheets, slides, forms).

Education and Experience:

  • Diploma or post-secondary degree in a related field (e.g. psychology, social work, sociology, community economic development, other relevant social science degree).
  • Experience working in the Downtown Eastside community is an asset. 
    Or the equivalent combination of related skills and experience.

To be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs, the candidate must be:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment (The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.)
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment (International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.)
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
