People
Mission Possible provides opportunities for people challenged by homelessness and poverty. Even in the midst of the challenges of addiction recovery, mental illness, disability and personal crisis, people dream of what life could be. Everyone has capacities, abilities, talents, and gifts even if they are tarnished and hidden due the hardships of homelessness and poverty.
Mission Possible walks alongside people to provide an opportunity--whether it is food, clothing, housing, friendship, spiritual support, or something positive to do with their hands. It's a myth that people challenged by homelessness and poverty don't want to work--most are simply looking for an opportunity. They will trade dependency for opportunity any day of the week.
Purpose
Mission Possible helps people experience dignity and purpose through meaningful work. Everyone needs motivation to get up out of bed in the morning--a sense of purpose for the day. Without a sense of hope, the daily rhythms that most of us take for granted become serious barriers.
We were created to work, and when the work is good and meaningful, we experience dignity and pride as the best payment for our efforts, whether we are paid or not. Our small contribution to making the world a better place fulfills one of the most basic human yearnings for significance and meaning--and by helping others we often find help for ourselves.
MP creates volunteer opportunities that turn seedlings of motivation into mature and lasting change.
Paycheque
Mission Possible creates jobs that lead people to lasting change: Downtown Eastsiders know about line-ups all too well. There are line-ups for everything including a monthly government-issued welfare cheque. Having done nothing to earn it, they struggled to bear the weight of the societal labels: deficient, disabled, unemployed, unstable, or addicted. In a community like this, a paycheque that is earned with sweat and calluses is a powerful platform for lasting change.
That is why it is simply not enough to sit in front of a computer looking at job postings, or attend a class about job interviews, or even polish a resume. Our people need a job today that is flexible and supportive, where they are given an onramp to employment success.
Through MP Maintenance and MP Recycling many People are finding Purpose and a Paycheque with new hope and lasting change.
