Our Story

Vision:

To be a community of transformation

Mission:

Mission Possible is a Christian humanitarian agency that transforms lives by helping those challenged by homelessness and poverty achieve a renewed sense of dignity and purpose through meaningful work.

History:

Mission Possible was founded over 20 years ago by Rev. Liz Wall. Her vision focused on meeting basic street-level needs with a loving and compassionate heart. Throughout the years, Mission Possible has walked with people who found hope in the midst of the challenging streets of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.

Every story is unique and every journey personal, yet the challenges of addiction, mental illness, disability, and other crises are profound. Mission Possible is here to provide friendship and relational support and to help individuals take that next step. That step would be towards greater stability, permanent housing, a new job, reconnection with family, a new community of support and love.

Under new leadership, in 2007 the Board of Directors engaged in an extensive community assessment and planning process out of which consensus for a new vision emerged. This new vision leverages Mission Possible's unique relational approach to offer our friends a renewed sense of purpose and dignity through volunteer opportunities and for those who are ready, willing, and able, an opportunity for paid work and a sustainable livelihood.

Spring 2009: Mission Possible launched MP Maintenance, a social enterprise that employs local residents by delivering facility maintenance services to Vancouver property owners.

Summer 2009: Mission Possible refocused MP Community, into a member-led cooperative community where together, both local residents and volunteers provide basic street-level services and relational support to those in need.

Summer 2010: Mission Possible launched MP Recycling, a social enterprise that successfully employees local residents with barriers to mainstream employment.

Fall 2011: Mission Possible is launching MP StudioWorks, a community-based artist studio giving people an outlet for creative expression and entrepreneurship.
